September 11, 2025 was the ribbon cutting for Leave it Better’s latest project, a beautiful mural at 5104 Third Avenue in downtown Eastman featuring the City of Eastman and the date that downtown Eastman was established in 1870. Leave it Better would like to thank all of the sponsors for this mural: The Arts Guild of Dodge County, City of Eastman, CoBank of Sharing Success, Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce, Eastman Downtown Development Authority, Leave It Better, Ocmulgee EMC Foundation, and The Coach John M. Peacock Foundation. Without each of these organizations this would not be possible. We’d also like to thank Josh and Flora King, owners of the property and Christoph Johnson, the artist.
Some have asked why do we continue to have murals painted? Because murals make towns come alive. They are more than just another painting on a wall. They’re powerful tools for economic and social growth. They boost the local economy by bringing foot traffic and revenue to our shops, restaurants, and local businesses. They showcase our story, celebrate our history, culture, and people, turning blank walls into landmarks that make us proud. They revitalize and beautify by transforming neglected spaces into vibrant gathering spots. They deter vandalism, and spark community pride. Murals also help to support local artists. They create paid opportunities for local talent and give everyone access to inspiring public art. When Eastman invests in murals, Eastman invests in the future of our community.
